At the foot of Ryde Pier, it is hard to miss the heavily beamed facade of The King Lud.
As one of the last real pubs left in Ryde, The King Lud insists it is everything a real local should be.
The King Lud has been given a new lease of life. Landlord Sam, his wife Suzy and their extended family have given The King Lud some much needed love and care in the last year and have made a really positive impact.
The King Lud now serves good, reasonably priced, homemade food all day, every day, and locally sourced, wherever possible.
The menu features traditional pub favourites with both light and hearty meals, to suit everybody.
The Specials Board features more homemade grub ranging from Game Pie, Stovies and Mixed Grills to Surf & Turf and imaginative Vegetarian and Fish Specials. The King Lud also serves a mean Sunday Roast and All Day Breakfasts.
The King Lud has expanded its Real Ale product and now boasts four hand pumps consistently serving excellent Real Ale and Scrumpy Ciders, celebrated once a year with a Real Ale Festival.
Having made a note of so many visitors asking about the history of the pub and seeing an opportunity to celebrate the history of Ryde, Sam has been working closely with Ryde Social Heritage Group to develop a pictorial exhibition of The King Lud and Ryde from 1700, that will shortly be displayed in a timeline the length of the pub.
Music features heavily in the mix at The King Lud, with Sam and Suzy priding themselves on being open to everything from Dubstep to Modern Jazz, Soul, Funk, Rock and Acoustic Sets, this combined with weekly Open Mic Night featuring lots of local talent, Scalextric and Games Night, a Poker League, a Pickle Parlour and the incredible Annual International Scooter Rally every August Bank Holiday, the King Lud now makes the best of its excellent location and everything that happens on Ryde Esplanade throughout the year and has opened its doors for all to enjoy.
At The King Lud, we still believe in real food so where possible all of our dishes are home made using the best of locally sourced ingredients.
