Nestled within an enviable position at the top of Carisbrooke high street with far reaching views of Carisbrooke castle, lies the Waverley inn, new owners Tim and Julie have introduced some exciting changes, The Waverley now opens from 8am for breakfasts served in the newly refurbished pool room that during the day transforms into ‘Storm (in a teacup) Cafe’ aptly named after Tim was struck by lightning within the first few weeks of taking over.  Julie’s passion for baking is evident with the delicious home-made cakes being served alongside speciality coffee and Carisbrooke blend tea.

Matt our wine expert from The island wine company, hosts quarterly wine nights, popular with locals who have the opportunity to taste the wines on offer and vote on their favourite, the winning wine becoming the house wines.

We have brought back real ale choice, We will be rotating regular ales and introducing seasonal beers – currently Yachtsman’s  ale from Island ales, and we have Re-introduced real ale hand pulled from our Victorian cellar with help from Goddards we now have Wight Squirrel on tap. With many locals informing us of our Guinness being the best in Newport we are proud to be providing customers with a great taste experience.

Lastly the Waverley has en-suite accommodation for visitors to the area, overnight guests are greeted by a spacious hallway with winding staircase, the tastefully decorated letting rooms all have en-suite facilities, WI-FI connection and Sky multi points. We are lucky to be within minutes of the Tennyson Trail so welcome walkers and have provision for drying boots and wet weather gear which might also be useful for the many cyclists who tour the island.

Passers-by might have noticed some differences to the front of the pub, with a beautiful new entrance hall and a stunning painting of the Waverley paddle steamer above the door. With recently refurbished toilets re landscaping the garden area and provision of a smoking shelter, should guarantee a pleasurable experience for the customer.

The Waverley has a reputation for good music nights and most Saturdays during high season the sounds of the many talented island bands can be heard and enjoyed, along with monthly open-mic nights, Karaoke and regular quiz nights in aid of local charities there is many opportunities to have a great night out.
